The Jump!

The tiny snowflakes tickled my nose as I stepped out of the travel bus. It had been more than eighteen months since I have been at this snowfield after my injury. My leg had broken and was claimed to be a spiral fracture. It had weeks in a plaster and had taken months to build enough strength to come back to my much loved sport.

The crunchy ice slipped on my poorly gripping shoes as I made my way towards the only hotel on this side of the mountain. I pushed past some tourists that have come to watch the competition that I miraculously qualified for. After almost an hour of paper work, signatures and discussion with the receptionist I reached my shared flat on the very top floor.

For the next eight weeks I trained. Ski jumping was my sport but I knew that I needed to work for what I wanted. Even though I have almost fully recovered, I am not as strong and confident as I used to be. This sport is dangerous. It is challenging. It is my life.

Every day I practiced my front tuck. Flip, fall, try again. Flip, fall, try again. Flip, fall, try again. As each day went by my confidence went with it. I wasn’t ready.

Another week disappeared and there was no sign of improvement. Flip, fall, try again. Flip, fall, try again. Flip, fall, try again.

When the day came I tried to convince myself that I was going to land my flip. As much as I tried, my brain wouldn’t believe I could. I was last to jump. I waited in the hut at the top of the terrain park until the starter called my name.

I could feel the cold air rushing past my ears. From this point onwards, every move I made would matter. I cautiously slid down the first few metres of the slope. I built up speed. There was a bump as my skis hit the bottom of the jump. I felt myself flying through the air and…

Netiquette Rules

Netiquette rules are a list of things to follow for correct behaviour on the internet. There is an endless list of Netiquette rules but here are some that everyone can remember…

  • Include a subject line

Subject lines are important to include because it is polite and is also easier for the reader to know what the email, post ext. is about 😆.

  • Identify yourself (state your name)

Your name is very much needed in anything you send to someone. If you don’t say who you are people may think they are talking to a stranger.

  • Avoid using sarcasm 😔

Sarcasm can be mistaken as an insult or something that is was not set out to be. It is very difficult to add expression on electronic devices and so the best thing to do is avoid it all together.

  • Use intensifiers eg. YAY!!!  😄

Intensifiers help deliver meaning. If ‘yay’ is written like this: yay. It will send a different meaning then this: YAY!!!
Intensifiers also make your text more interesting.

  • Use emoticons ☺

Emojis are AWESOME!!! 😍. Everything is better with emojis. Posts or emails or any piece of text can go from dull and boring to intriguing and fun all because of emojis 😂.

  • Be concise

Nobody likes a writer that rambles on about the littlest things, so be short sharp but also use purposeful sentences when writing. This will make your piece of text more interesting and people are more likely to actually read it 😛.

  • Be polite ❤

The golden rule of netiquette:  ‘Do the same to others as you would do to yourself.’
Always follow this rule. Think before you do and ask yourself if you want to live life knowing that you crushed someone else’s.

#GAME ON

#GAME ON, #CYBERBULYING, #AWESOME, #AMUSING, #FUN, #ZZZ

#GAME ON:   A 20 minute video of cyber safety that is acted out by children. #GAME ON explains the cause and effect of actions online.

#CYBERBULLYING:  Cyberbullying is harassing people online, either by words of photos. It is a real problem in the world today. With more and more people using social media the amount of cyberbullying has increased. One of the problems shone in the video it to do with this concept.

#AWESOME:  The video was awesome because it was conveying a message through acting and because of that it was more intriguing. The settings made it even more awesome with some being a cupcake shop, a chicken pen ext.

#LONG:  #GAME ON was a long 20 minute video. It needed this length to explain what happened but it was so long that you stopped paying attention after a while 😕.

#AMUSING:   Even though it was long, at some points you just wanted to know more. Did she ever find the victim? Did he stop talking to strangers? Did they ever get to level 12 on the game? These were some of the questions most people would be asking throughout the video.

#FUN:   #GAME ON was fun to watch because of the common jokes and catch phrases. My expression while watching:
☺ 😂 😃 😄 😅 😆 🙂

#ZZZ:  The video was so relaxing to watch it could put you to sleep. Sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a bad way. It really depends what your interests are.

Everyone can learn something from watching #GAME ON, so if you would like to do so , here it is:
Please comment your thoughts of the video!

Advantages and disadvantages of computer use

Computers aren’t just devices, in some cases they are our best friends. Being in school, computers are the main source of everything I do. Without them I wouldn’t know the things I know, say the things I say, or do the things I do. This would be the same with most people with access to computer use. This posts is dedicated specifically to the advantages and disadvantages of computers.

About Computers

The use of computers is growing as we speak and it is important to know the advantages and disadvantages of these electronic machines. People use computers for many different reasons ranging from inserting information to social media. In 2012 around the world 2,405,518,376 people were internet users. This is 34.4 % of the world’s population (www.reference.com/world-view/many-people-world-computer). Computers have sped up the process of understanding our planet and our universe. They have launched the modern world off the scales and have helped in many ways around the globe.

Advantages of computer use

Computers are great in many different ways and here are just a few. Computers hold more information than Albert Einstein could ever dream of. This has helped society in every way possible. From school assignment to playing your favourite game, the internet is the go to source. The internet is one thing but apps and files are another. Without word, power point, publisher, excel ext. where would the world be today. Computers are amazing devices and have shaped the world we know.

Disadvantages of computer use

With every good thing comes some bad also and here are some of the negatives that are included in the package of computers. The internet is a great source and when it comes to social media everyone is on top of it but cyber bulling and stolen identities are real problems faced in today’s world. Not only when your using it but getting on to the internet is a huge problem if the connection is slow or if you are not even connected at all. Apps don’t always cooperate with you even if you are an expert. Viruses and updates don’t mix with assignment deadlines. Not only that but the app in general can annoy you out of your skin. Although apps are amazing they don’t always work to our convenience.

Computers are amazing devices and when it comes to purchasing one there can be a big decision made. Please comment if you have a favourite type of computer or if you have a fact about these machines.
